Cats vs Dogs

Do you have a preference, or do you own both cats and dogs?

In my life time, I’ve had both, often at the same time. At one time, I had two dogs and two cats and I loved them all. The dogs were Pit bull and Cockapoo. Their names were Dot and Buffy. Dot, after a marking on her back, and Buffy after watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Our Buffy was a ferocious newspaper slayer.

The cats were both rescues, one I actually stole from a neighbor because they were abusing her. Let’s face it, cats are much easier to take care of. Give them food and water and a clean litter box and they are mostly independent, often sleeping much of the time.

Dogs require a little more upkeep. If you don’t have a fenced yard where they can safely run around, you need to walk them a lot so they can do their business and also so they can get exercise. Dogs usually also require a lot more of your attention. They want you to pet them and play with them a lot more frequently than cats.

Kittens are usually energetic and like a lot of toys to play with but an older cat will sleep about 18 hours a day. They are delighted when they can accomplish that on a warm basket of clean laundry or in a spot of sunshine coming in through the window onto the carpet. I have gotten some what lazy and don’t always want to go outside early in the morning, or in the rain or snow to walk a dog, so for now I have a cat.

Perhaps in the future when my housing situation changes, I’ll get a dog again.
