Snow And Ice Brings Out The Crazy Fuckers On The Road

Tonight’s weather forecast calls for the temperatures to drop to the lowest point this year by early morning. We actually have freeze warnings out for entire Metro area. That means that I have to bring in the houseplants and make sure that the antifreeze levels are good in all the vehicles and all that good shit. I still can’t believe that I actually have to wear a winter coat in the morning. That is a sure sign that autumn and anything associated with warmish type weather is long gone. I just hope we don’t get a lot of ice and snow this winter. I can handle the cold (though I would prefer not to) but the precipitation is what makes everything miserable and so fucking dangerous.

We aren’t known for having good drivers in regular situations around here. So when you throw any type of small kink into the mixture, these people around here just totally lose their fucking minds and the roads fill up rather quickly with wrecks along with all types of vehicles that have slid off of the part of the road.that they are supposed to have been on.  So even if there really isn’t much snow and/or ice on the roads I think that playing it safe and cancelling the schools is a good idea. Those big ass yellow school buses are carrying precious cargo that need to be safe from all the crazies that just have to go out in the snow and ice no matter what.

With Halloween coming up here soon I’ve been thinking about many of the Halloween festivities of my youth. My own memories of Halloween are really of all the great fun, year after year as I was growing up in the suburbs on the east coast. We lived in an established neighborhood and the parents didn’t worry about letting the kids head out to go door to door for the night. We had to eat dinner first – it was always at 6:00 pm sharp. Then we bolted out the door to catch up with our friends and we had to be home before 10. We never had any trouble with other kids or any fucking perverts. It was always a lot of fun back in the day. We weren’t really thrilled with getting an apple put in our trick or treat bags, but at least we were not afraid to eat the damn thing for fear of a razor blade or some other type of shit being hidden in it.

Things have sure changed. There is no fucking way I would allow my kids to go out on their own, that is if I had any kids, which I don’t.  If they went out, I’d be right there along side with them. I worry about perverts but worry more about gangs of teens and even shootings in some parts of town. I’d walk the streets with my kids and carry the flashlight, and I’d stay at the end of the driveway to let them go to the door on their own. But we all would most definitely go out together and stay together the entire time, and if we don’t know who lives in the house we would just walk on by.

Skip the fries

Went to Five Guys and had a burger. I know they brag about their fries – the peanut oil and all. But I really can’t eat fries any more. Doctors orders. I really have to get these last 8 pounds off my butt and thighs. It’s embarrassing. I blame the fries for that and this has to stop. So, no fries and a lot more lettuce and celery.

Kool Aid

Today’s kids seem to be drinking carbonated sodas as their daily drink and refreshment. I know that when I was a kid we rarely drank sodas. I don’t think my parents ever even bought any soda at the grocery store to keep at home.

We were allowed to drink milk, orange juice, Kool Aid and iced tea. As a treat we might get lemonade or apple juice. I think the only time we ever drank sodas was when we were taken to McDonald’s for a treat of a hamburger, fries and coke.

That was a big deal and only for special occasions. Now, kids eat at McDonald’s and other fast food places every day. No wonder they are fat.

I have never really been a fan of soup. There are a couple that I can tolerate once in a while, like Beef with Barley and Chicken Noodle, but I see these as comfort food for when you are sick and who wants to eat something that reminds them of being sick, not me!  I do cook with soup on occasion. I like pouring Cream of Chicken and Cream of Mushroom over chicken breasts and baking it for 35 minutes at 350 degrees, served with rice and a veggie. If you haven’t tried it, I would suggest trying it some time, it is fast and easy and healthy and it always comes out great tasting.
